Let’s kick off with what to look out for when selecting a sun glass…

What to look out for when selecting a Sun glass

When thinking of getting a new pair of sunglass cheap or expensive brand it is best to know what to look out for in the specs and descriptions of that glass. Now we are in the “sunglass” topic I would not be buying a reading glass. So it’s best to know what to look out for so you will be able to select what you want using your consumer power ANYWHERE!!.

Check below for some things to look out for when selecting or thinking sunglasses:

  • Ultraviolet Marking: You will want to check the tag on your sun glass to make sure it carries “100% UV protection” as most people tend to ignore the descriptive tag on a sun glass, let me explain why it is important to check the UV marking. UV radiation ray is present in sunlight constituting about 10% of the total light output of the Sun. To protect the eyes from these harmful rays, wearing a 100 percent UV ray protected glasses in essence gives t hat guarantee of a healthy eye in the sun.
  • The Size: Also very important here is to know what size of glass to buy that will really fit and make you look awesome while you protect your eyes, there are several face shape namely the Oval, Heart, Round, Square, Face, (check guide on sun glass types and size for each face shape) knowing the shape of your face and the size of glass that best suit you is really important for fashion and style. When you are really looking for protection from the sun’s light and not really laying much emphasis on fashion, you should consider going for a bigger sun glass, the bigger the glass the better the cover around the eyes.
  • Colors: Here, while it is important to correct the common misconception that its every dark glasses that protect from sun’s ray and sun light, no not all. Dark glasses if not a polarized could just be a shade. Also, all sunglasses does not have to be dark, what is most important is the protection it gives the eyes, your pair of sunglasses could be pink, brown or taking other colors as far as it protects the eyes from the sun’s light, sun’s ray, water, snow & glass., then there should not be an issue.
  • Polarized Lenses and Glare: Polarized sunglasses are designed to reduce glare(shine with a strong or dazzling light) from surfaces such as glass, water and snow. Glare affects the true color of objects making them harder to differentiate. Polarized sunglasses are especially useful not just for fashion but are used for certain sports and by some people driving, helping them to navigate and see the road clearly. So when you are given a pair of polarized sun glass at any store know what to expect from the description tag or from its use.

  1. Hi there,

I am a woman so I don’t need sunglasses, but as a glasses wearer, I do appreciate this article.

Prada is a top brand and you have chosen quite a good selection for people to choose from.  I am also Nigerian and know  men from that land love to wear sunglasses to pose and look “cool” in.

My personal glasses have a tinted purple frame that makes them look really expensive.  Got them 2 for the price or 1!  However, I have been known to splash out £120 on a pair.  But I suppose Prada start from £300? They look good on people and you definitely do not want to lose them!

    1. Sunglasses can be worn by anyone, you just have to get one if you need it.

Also yes certain Nigerians love sunglasses and they do mostly for fashion, thanks for your comment and feel free to browse here for other fashion and lifestyle related posts.

  2. Hey Abdulramon,

    This was a great article.

I never thought about the size and shape of the lens being so important but when you stop and think about in they are covering your eyes.

I would have thought that the darker the glasses the better. But you pointed out in the article that that doesn’t make a difference. It’s the polarized lenses that matter.

  3. You got some high class quality sun glasses here. I love Prada and came to look at your site to see what you have in offer.

Actually I’m interested in the Prada Runway eyewear, I’m ever again impressed of their look. Do you know where I can get those for a reasonable price?

The three models you recommend buying on Amazon are far nicer than the regular sunglasses for sure but before I buy one of these I would like to know more about my favorite Runway style.

  4. Great post! I haven’t worn sunglasses in years, but I’ve been wanting a pair. My main problem is that I don’t know what I’m really looking for. The tips in here are very useful for someone like me. When I was younger, I just wanted something dark to hide my eyes behind, but now I’m more about function than form. I would like something polarized with 100% UV protection. I don’t really care if they’re black or not, anymore. I want something my eyes will actually enjoy, more than my ego, if that makes any sense. I’m going to save this link, so I can refer back to it later.

    1. Thanks for your comment Mark, When choosing sunglasses basically you will want to go for what you like, the color you like as far as it will meet the purpose for which you planned to get it in the first place.
There’s nothing wrong with the non polarized sunglass if it is intended for just fashion, and is also cheaper. But when you want serious protection from the sunglass then you will want to go for a polarized one.

  5. Hi there, nice article. It’s the winter in the UK so may not be needing sunglasses for a little while, but I will check these out when I do.

I have a pretty small head, for a male, and when I buy sunglasses, often if they are cheap, they don’t fit very well and don’t feel tight enough around my head.

So I often have to splash out a little more, some of these sunnies match a lot of my criteria so I will definitely check them out.

  6. Great information about how to choose the best sunglasses whether they are expensive or less expensive. I didn’t know about the 100% UV protection information before. Also, I think my dad will love a pair of these. He is a farmer and spends a lot of time out in the fields under the hot sun. I think he would love a pair of these for the holidays. The Prada brand appears to be a very good one. I will definitely look for one with polarization as it adds a depth to vision with the sunglass.

My dad is 77. Do you have a certain type that you would recommend especially for working out in the field?

  7. If you can afford to buy a pair of designer sunglasses, then I would agree that Prada is certainly a brand worth consideration. They have great styles and colours, and can be worth the money.

But for me, any sunglasses that I would consider would have to meet these criteria: they must have both UVA and UVB protection, they must be  polarised and they must be anti-glare. Once those were met, I would then check out the brand, style and lens colour, and then make my choice according to my pocket!

However, I do like the look of the Prada sunglasses that you have shown, and if they meet my criteria then I would certainly consider them.

Many thanks for your really interesting post.

    Chrissie 🙂
